The first chapter in Renny Harlin's THE STRANGERS reboot trilogy hits theaters in 2024.
In recent news, Lionsgate revealed that The Strangers reboot, which fans have been eagerly anticipating, will be a trilogy. Today, new stills were released, offering a glimpse of the frightening masked killers in the first chapter of The Strangers. The director of the trilogy is Renny Harlin, known for his work on Deep Blue Sea and Die Hard 2. The cast includes Madelaine Petsch from Riverdale and Froy Gutierrez from Hocus Pocus 2, portraying a couple who are targeted by enigmatic strangers and terrorized.
The remake centers on a couple (Petsch and Gutierrez) who drive cross-country to begin a new life in the Pacific Northwest. When their car breaks down in Venus, Oregon, they’re forced to spend the night in a secluded Airbnb, where they are terrorized from dusk till dawn by three masked strangers.
The script for the upcoming film trilogy was written by Alan R. Cohen and Alan Freedland, who are known for their work on "The Freak Brothers" and "Due Date". They have adapted the story from Bryan Bertino's 2008 home invasion classic. In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, director Harlin shared his background with the project and discussed his reasoning behind reimagining the story as a trilogy.
"I didn't really know anything about it when I saw it and I just loved it. I thought it was fantastic and it's stuck in my mind as one of my favorite horror films [...] When this opportunity came to me, the idea of not doing a remake or a reboot but doing a trilogy based on the original film, I thought it was an incredible opportunity,"
