The Conjuring Universe, a cornerstone of modern horror cinema, currently boasts eight spine-chilling films. As recently revealed, a ninth installment is actively in development. Michael Chaves, known for his work on The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It and The Nun II, is set to return to direct The Conjuring 4. This upcoming film is reportedly the final chapter in the main series of The Conjuring movies.
But the thrills don't stop there. The Conjuring is also making its way to the small screen. Originally announced in April 2023, the development of a series for Max continues into 2024. Casey Bloys from Max shared with Variety this week, “There are other properties [in development] like The Conjuring, which is a big movie franchise that we’re developing into a series.”
It's been over a year since any updates on Max’s planned The Conjuring television series, so it's exciting to hear that the project is still progressing. Stay tuned for more updates soon!
Peter Safran is spearheading the development of this horror-drama series, based on New Line Cinema’s film franchise, in collaboration with Warner Bros. Television. The series aims to “continue the story established in the feature films.”
James Wan’s Atomic Monster Productions and Peter Safran’s The Safran Company will produce this first-ever small screen project for the franchise, in association with WBTV.
The Conjuring films draw inspiration from the real-life case files of paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, portrayed by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga. The current lineup of The Conjuring universe includes The Conjuring, Annabelle, The Conjuring 2, Annabelle: Creation, The Nun, Annabelle Comes Home, and The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It. The eighth film, The Nun 2, was released just last year.
With a new film and a television series on the horizon, fans of The Conjuring universe have much to look forward to as this chilling saga continues to expand its haunting legacy.
