Fans of horror and classic toys from the late 80s may remember M.E.G.'s Monster In My Pocket. This toyline was a huge success with over 500 million units sold, and featured over 200 tiny monsters inspired by pop culture, campfire legends, and various global mythologies. It was so popular that it even spawned its own animated TV special, an NES game, and comic books.
Now, many years later, Westbrook Studios and Altar Rock Pictures, owned by Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith, have announced that they are teaming up to create a live-action TV series based on the iconic toyline. The companies are currently in talks with writers to decide on the direction of the show. It's likely that the TV series will feature tiny monsters and pockets, but the specifics are yet to be determined. If you have a pitch for the show, it might be worth contacting Will Smith.
David Boorstein, SVP, Head of Scripted TV at Westbrook, said the following about the project: "We're excited to bring these iconic monsters to life and explore the world of Monster In My Pocket with our partners at Altar Rock Pictures."
“We’ve seen a real thirst for projects rooted in nostalgia. Monster In My Pocket had such a major impact on our culture, and we’re excited to dive into the rich, captivating legends of these beloved characters, bringing new life to such an iconic brand alongside our partners at Altar Rock Pictures and MEG.”
There's currently no information available about the upcoming live-action Monster In My Pocket TV series. We don't know the plot, casting, or release date yet. However, it's expected that the series will coincide with the launch of a new Monster In My Pocket toyline. The project is in development, and we will update you as soon as we receive further information. Stay tuned for more updates on the show.
